“This is all about my vision of Cuba. But of course, what do I know about Cuba? It is very childish, my idea,” said Karl Lagerfeld of Chanel’s Cruise 2017 show. Staged in its capital Havana in May, the show saw the inimitable designer reimagine the nation’s history and heritage through Che Guevara berets (a “playful nod” to the Marxist revolutionary), prints of Cadillacs and cigars, and other Cuba-flavoured iterations of the house’s signature designs.

Now, Chanel has unveiled the collection’s accompanying campaign – a series of images shot by Lagerfeld, like nearly all of its visuals. To model the range, the designer enlisted Argentinian beauty Mica Arganaraz and British androgyne Stella Tennant, capturing them on the sun-soaked streets of Havana and on the coast.

Over the past few years, Chanel has staged its shows in a number of far-flung locations, from Dallas and Dubai to Salzburg and Seoul – where the house chooses to hold its next is anyone’s guess.

The unveiling of this campaign comes just weeks after Chanel’s SS17 ready-to-wear show which saw the worlds of fashion and tech collide – servers filled the set, ‘Chanel bots’ walked the runway and colourful cables inspired the prints.

Back in May, Chanel became the first luxury house to hold a runway show in Havana, Cuba — designer Karl Lagerfeld had never even visited the island until days before the event — and flew 700 guests and 45 models to the picturesque (and very trendy) locale for a weekend-long extravaganza to celebrate the French label's cruise 2016/2017 collection. With their gifted Chanel fedoras, a fleet of colorful, vintage convertibles on hand to shuttle them around town, local musicians providing a live runway soundtrack and an organized group outing to Cabaret Tropicana, attendees were given a crash course in Cuban culture — well, at least Lagerfeld's romanticized (if not slightly myopic) ideas about Cuban culture. "This is all about my vision of Cuba," Lagerfeld told The Cut. "But of course, what do I know about Cuba? It is very childish, my idea."

The collection, which featured both stereotypical and subtle nods to the country (for instance, the tweeds and touristy T-shirts in vibrant colors, several takes on the guayabera, a traditional Cuban shirt, and separates in military-inspired olive green) was undeniably Chanel, and in keeping with the season's theme, Lagerfeld shot models Mica Arganaraz and Stella Tennant around the streets of Havana and along the rocky coastline. According to a release, the black berets the models wear in the images are "a playful nod to Che," and the color palette is inspired by "the vibrant facades of Havana." Considering how many editorials have been shot in Cuba over the past year, we expect this to be just one of many campaigns set on the island in the seasons to come.

Armani to Show Emporio Armani Spring 2017 Runway Collection in Paris

Fashion

Italian designer Giorgio Armani is showing his upcoming Emporio Armani spring 2017 fashion show in Paris, exceptionally favoring the French capital for just one runway show. Armani’s other brand, namely the Giorgio Armani collection, will still be featured on the Milan Fashion Week schedule to the pleasure of those who always look forward to his shows in Milan.

Armani to Show Emporio Armani Spring 2017 Runway Collection in Paris

Such a decision may surprise many of you, but doesn’t come by chance at all. The designer’s choice of venue for his younger label’s runway show is rather a well thought-out change, as it coincides with another important, exciting event.

“This season, exceptionally, I have decided to present the Emporio Armani collection in Paris. The renovation of the Emporio Armani Paris store and Café in Saint-Germain have given me the opportunity to re-think the show’s venue and date,” the legendary designer told WWD.

It is not the first time that Giorgio Armani has tried to move one of his runway shows to Paris, although it is (probably) going to be the first time he will manage to actually show his collection at the Paris Fashion Week. Back in 1998, when the Emporio Armani Paris Store was inaugurated, the Italian designer decided to celebrate it with a party and, an exclusive Giorgio Armani show.

Because of ‘security reasons’, the show and the party were offhandedly canceled by the Parisian police, which also had to shut down the tents Giorgio Armani had nicely built for the show. As reported by an article of The New York Times written in March 13th of 1998, however, the story looked different from Giorgio Armani’s side.

“Although the official reason was security problems with the tent erected in the Saint-Germain-des-Pres area, the Italian designer suggested that the real reasons were chauvinism, politics and the inability of the French to face up to a changing, global world. ‘This is a war between the French and the Italians — but I like war,’ said Mr. Armani, who will now restage the banned show in New York during the American collections next month.”

Scheduled for the 3rd of October, the Emporio Armani spring 2017 runway show + the store reopening is a great opportunity for the luxury house to lessen the distances between its aesthetics and the younger French audience. The 1200 m2 store, which closed in January for the make-over, will be entirely renovated under a new, more captivating concept, and is going to be strategically important for the label’s sales.

As for us, we truly hope everything goes according to plan, this time around!

Karlie Kloss Appears in the New Adidas by Stella McCartney Fall 2016 Campaign

Fashion

If there is one thing this summer will be remembered for, that’s definitely the incredible amount of athleisure-inspired collaborations famous brands have been overwhelming us with. One of the latest and most anticipated collaborations is the Adidas by Stella McCartney fall 2016 collection, which now finally has an official ambassador: model Karlie Kloss.

Although the appointment of Kloss as the new Adidas by Stella McCartney’s brand ambassador was made official via Instagram on Monday, the campaign’s previews have already gone viral, with the pieces Karlie Kloss wears instantly appearing in many wishlists.

The young model and coder (she recently launched a coding camp for girls) is no stranger when it comes to promoting a healthier and more athletic lifestyle, which now finds a tres chic interpretation thanks to the Stella McCartney x Adidas fall 2016 proposals.

“It is an honour to be the face of adidas by Stella McCartney. Both iconic brands continuously raise the bar in fashion, fitness and technology. Their collaboration is the perfect intersection of style and function, resulting in a collection that empowers women to feel strong and confident,” declared Kloss in a press release, revealing one of the collaboration’s main themes – empowerment.

“Karlie is a true Adidas by Stella McCartney woman. She has that unique energy that drives others whether she is in front of the camera or challenging herself in the gym or on the track, all the while expressing her own individual style. I am thrilled to have her as the face of the Fall/Winter 2016 collection, she inspires and empowers a new generation of women to push themselves further in achieving their goals without compromise,” pointed out Stella McCartney herself.

With staples that boost any woman’s curves and self-confidence, the Adidas by Stella McCartney partnership clearly uses coziness and athletic performances as the collection’s focal points, encouraging both those who already run a healthy lifestyle, and those who are not that athletic, to just feel fierce and happy to work out and love their bodies.

Blending Adidas’ skills when it comes to sportswear, as well as Stella McCartney’s cutting-edge style when it comes to fashion, the line-up does not lack in attitude either. Versatile, covetable and certainly eclectic, the collection features super warm staples, such as pile jacket to show off while trekking, as well as cozy daily pieces, including sports bras and leggings.

The Adidas by Stella McCartney collaboration is comprised of pieces that could be donned either during any daily workout session, or as athleisure-inspired garments when going out with friends.

While, for instance, the short shorts and the Yoga Bamboo style leggings could be regarded as purely gym-inspired, the revisited Adidas Ultra Boot shoes, stripped leggings and solid-colored tees could create appealing high and low contrasts when paired with more elegant or even bon-ton pieces.

The Adidas by Stella McCartney fall 2016 collection is currently available for purchase on the Stella McCartney and Adidas websites.

Kendall + Kylie Jenner Debut a Handbag Collection

Fashion

When Kendall and Kylie Jenner announced a handbag collection for their fashion line, Kendall + Kylie, back in April, we didn’t expect their dogs to be included in the project for sure. If you happen to be a Nineties kid, you probably remember the time when carrying a dog in one’s purse was really a thing. Well, apparently the trend has just come back, yet in a slightly different way. The Jenners have just debuted an 18-piece handbag collection for fall 2016  that, among other things, pays homage to both Fendi’s personalized fur keychains and Kylie’s two Italian greyhounds, Norman and Bambi (which, of course, have their own Instagram account as well).

Kendall + Kylie Jenner Fall 2016 Handbags

Available now at Saks Fifth Avenue and, starting from August, in various retailers such asBloomingdalesNeiman MarcusRevolve, and Shopbop too, the Kendall + Kylie fall 2016 handbag collection is quite affordable too, with price tags ranging from $75 to $450.

Contemporary at its purest and with clean and sophisticated aesthetics, the 18 handbags all embody Kylie’s edgy street-style attitude, and Kendall’s feminine tomboyish look, meaning that basically any taste could be satisfied. As for the collection’s main sources of inspiration, they came both from the sisters’ passion for travelling, which ultimately adds an overall cosmopolitan allure to the collection, and their love for timeless fashion staples, which pays homage to some of the world’s most iconic handbags ever.

Kendall + Kylie Jenner Fall 2016 Handbags

Take, for instance, Kendall + Kylie’s Brook Mini Leather Tote bag: not denoting a resemblance with Céline’s Trapeze Mini tote is practically impossible. Other models include Kendall’s beloved backpacks, mini bucket bags, satchels, oversized geometric clutches and cozy cross-body bags.

Both the sisters enjoyed playing with different sizes and shapes, as well as trying to find always new ways to provide us with super practical and functional staples that never give up on style.

“I love that we played with all different sizes, from mini to large. A good handbag is functional and easy to use, without compromising the design or overall look. Each design definitely makes its own statement,” declared Kylie.

The 18 pieces all come in different colors (although a darker color palette clearly prevails), and all feature top-notch materials that infuse the entire collection with an haute couture-esque sense of luxury. Crocodile-embossed leather, pony hair, calf… Leather is definitely the key fabric here, and goes all the way down from the bags to the aforementioned furry keychains too.

Last but not least, all of the pieces are meant to be paired with the Kendall + Kylie fall 2016 shoe line, and are very likely just the beginning of an imposing adventure for the sisters. As Kylie said in a statement back in April, “some bags are such a statement piece, they can really alter an entire look,” which also means that creating handbags is a serious business indeed for the unstoppable duo, and we should probably expect things to get bigger and bigger from now on.

Guo Pei’s Couture Fall 2016 Show Brought Princess Glamour to the Fashion Stage

Fashion

Heavily opulent, elegant and with dramatic styles that could make anyone daydream, theGuo Pei Couture fall/winter 2016-2017 collection came overloaded with Chinese mythical creatures and legends that inspired the talented designer. Guo Pei, along withUlyana Sergeenko, is one of the first designers to kick off the first day of the Paris Couture Fashion Week, and we loved her collection to bits.

Guo Pei Couture Fall/ Winter 2016-2017 Collection

Regarded by many as the Chinese queen of haute couture, Guo Pei has been featuring Chinese-inspired motifs in full gear in her line-ups during the recent years, slowly lessening the distances between the Eastern and the Western cultures and, overwhelming the runaway shows with cascades of different vibrant colors, shimmery fabrics and loads of frills and fringes.

When it comes to haute couture the ‘less is more’ mantra couldn’t be more distant from her perspectives on fashion, as proven by her notorious diamond-studded garment from the 2008 Olympics, to which she, with the help of a dozen of tailors, manually attached a grand total of 20,000 Swarovski crystals.

Guo Pei Couture Fall/ Winter 2016-2017 Collection

Those who thought it would have been impossible for her to outdo herself in creating something equally lavish, may now change their mind. Thanks to a well-served richness in texture, designs and materials, the Guo Pei Couture fall 2016 collection is strikingly jaw-dropping, with its gold-thread embroideries, manual crafts and dramatic silhouettes that might not be as valuable as the 20,000 Swarovski crystals, but, in terms of opulence, are just as glorious.

Aside from gold, the tones of which range from the brightest and most glittering to slightly more dark-toned shades, the color palette of this collection includes some of China’s traditional colors too, such as fiery red, deep purple and a rich, fairylike bright blue, which got combined either with gold or a light brown hue.

Guo Pei Couture Fall/ Winter 2016-2017 Collection

To further accentuate the beauty of colors, Pei not only opted to play with layered fringes and sequins, but also added translucent materials and beaded embroideries to the staples, completing the looks with high-heeled metallic pumps and stilettos.

Curve-hugging and with certain references of the Roaring Twenties mixed with China’s traditional tailoring, Pei enhanced the sinuous proposals with reversed oversized figures, the origami zigzagged gowns and exaggerated hems of which dynamically spice up the entire line-up, catapulting us in one of Pei’s sweetest fairytales.

Guo Pei Couture Fall/ Winter 2016-2017 Collection

The majority of the proposals might in fact be regarded as royal indeed, with intricate head ornaments literally crowning the looks and being as much imposing as sophisticated.

For her Guo Pei Couture fall 2016 show, however, Pei did not solely focus on conventionally ‘haute’ looks. Some outfits even featured tulle or dramatic cocoon skirts combined with slightly glam rock bodices and tops, the risqué super-plunging V-necklines of which created an interesting contrast with the many puffed-shoulders and geometric-cut necklines the majority of the ensembles featured.

As usual, she drew the show to a close with an impressive dress with hand-sewn sun-kissed embellishments that were the result of more than 20,000 hours of labor. The staple, the mermaid figure of which got of course exaggerated in the perfect Pei style, genuinely seems out of this world, and truly shows what Pei is capable of.
